What Is Click Flooring?

A popular flooring installation method is click (or lock) flooring. Its name originates from the fact that the planks utilized in its assembly “click” together, instead of having to use nails, staples, or glue.

Click flooring is among the most straightforward and uncomplicated ways to lay a wooden floor, especially for DIY enthusiasts.

Types of Click Flooring

Click flooring is usually made in vinyl or laminate flooring types. Certain engineered hardwood floors are also available in this configuration and are, in fact, one of the most preferred options.

Irrespective of what kind of click flooring you use, you must know that this type of flooring goes by too many names. Interlocking flooring, snap-together flooring, and click-lock flooring are some other common names for this type of flooring.

It is interesting to note that click flooring options made from engineered wood tend to look more natural than laminate and vinyl options. Given their general appearance and making process, the vinyl and laminate floorings for click lock type floors are very visible as such, whereas engineered wood click floors look like solid hardwood floors.

Advantages of Click Flooring

No matter by what name you call it, there are various advantages to these floors, which have led to their popularity in a short period. Some of the key advantages of this type of flooring are as follows:

  • Easy to Install: The click-lock connectors in click-together flooring offer sufficient tension to hold it all together without the requirement for adhesive or nails to secure it onto the subfloor. But as we have already established, click floors come in countless variations. Some can be bonded down with glue; others have permanently been installed as floating flooring. The requirements for you will be based entirely on the specific product that you purchase. But as a general rule, click floors are set up as floating floors that do not need to be glued or nailed down. If you are the handy kind, you can go ahead and install the click flooring by yourself since they are typically made to be DIY-friendly. It is not advisable to install any flooring without any previous experience or expert advice. The inconvenience, expense, or effort, with a chance of making a mistake, are nearly never worth it.
  • Can be waterproof: Though it depends entirely on the specific type of click floor product and material you’re utilizing, it is possible to make your floors waterproof with these types of floors. Generally, there are several types of flooring that we consider to be “waterproof.” Vinyl planks, for instance, are the most commonly preferred option in this category. They have a precise click installation and a synthetic structure that gives them a waterproof quality. Therefore, if you are seeking a waterproof flooring solution but do not wish to install vinyl sheets, you will virtually invariably find a few click floor options.
  • Remodel your old floors: Click flooring systems may typically be installed over pre-existing surfaces, just like most floating floors. However, it again depends significantly on the type of flooring you choose. However, installing a floating floor over a damaged surface or carpeting is not something that would be advised by any professional. Thus, you must be sure to choose the proper subfloor. Otherwise, you may wind up with a disastrous flooring installation. If you have the kind of hardwood floors which cannot be restrained easily and still want a flooring change without ripping everything off, the click flooring solution is the right choice for you. What could be simpler than just getting some planks and clicking them together on top of your existing floor and getting a new look altogether? Nothing!
  • Reusable: To repeat again, it all depends upon the material you choose, but click floors can be reused as well. This means that if you shift homes, you can take your floors with you. This, however, is applicable primarily to cases where you do not have to glue down the floor planks. If your planks are simply clicked and locked together, and installed in a floating configuration, then in most cases, you can remove them or get them removed by a professional. This makes it easier to replace them as required.

There seem to be multiple different click flooring systems available on the market, and most of them are built of laminated or engineered planks. This commodity is especially appealing to the DIY market because of the smart advertising it has received. Locate a nearby local retailer if you plan to buy click flooring as well. For all of your flooring needs, local stores are hands-down the greatest option; they can respond to your inquiries, assist you in selecting a surface, or even arrange for installation.
